DFI 9 External Recognition

 DFI 9 External Recognition

Time For Reflection

The DFI  programme is a very effective way of learning.

Every week I learn't the pedagogy of the Manaiakalini way.  The values Learn, Create,Share is part of my every day language at school and elsewhere in my life.

What I enjoyed the most ..... was there were many ....especially connecting with other teachers and leaders.

I came into this programme at the beginning stages and now I feel confident that I can share my learning to the rest of the staff.

The programme supported me to acquire fluency using the basic tools required for effective teaching, planning, assessment and professional learning. It  supported to understand how digital technologies used effectively can have a significant impact on accelerating achievement outcomes.

The programme supported me to understand how the Manaiakalini pedagogy and Kaupapa has been co constructed over more than a decade to maximise the impact of effective teaching and learning in a digital learning environment.

My bubble group lead by Kerry our mentor was so kind and thoughtful and full of knowledge.

To the DFI team- Thank you for excellent presentations every week. I am grateful to you all for your support. I am enthused to learn more.

DFI 8 Computational Thinking Learners and Teachers

"The Manaiakalini Kaupapa of empowerment is advancing of Rangatiratunga and taking back control of their own lives. " Pat Sneeden Chair MET

Every child in NZ deserves to have connectivity in their lives.

EMPOWERED - Its just not a tool.

EMPOWERMENT - "When it transforms the way we learn.  It offers us uncharted experiences and opportunities"

Dean Shaneski (2011)

Children will switch off learning if the learning teachers give is not powerful or worthy of them.

We as educators need to be creative with our teaching as there is so many more avenues for students to follow.

We need to "hook" students into learning.

A point to note is that some of our learners come from families who are on the minimum  earning wage.

Lack of money disempowers people especially when it comes to choices.

Some children in the lower socio economic areas arrive at school with 32 million less words in English.

A point to note is by empowering children to learn with all the educational google tools you will build the oral language in the child.

Future for Technology

What it means for our students

Here is a very interesting clip of where technology is taking us.
Are we as educators keeping up?

Moral and Ethics in Technology

There are so many positives in Technology,  as Educators we need to ponder of the Morals and Ethics

Digital Technologies Curriculum

A digital Fluent Learner is able to make choices, be empowered and use the digital tool that is appropriate
to their learning
A Digital Fluent teacher is able to learn and teach side by side with their digital fluent students.

Scratch

What a fun learning experience.

Learning with my fellow educators and students is a great fun experience.

Ubiquitous

 Ubiquitous

Any time

Any where

Any Place

A life long Journey

Removing Barriers     Learning can take place  24/7 .

The child has the time to learn whenever they choose.

In 2020 Ubiquitous learning became distance learning for schools in nz

AT Otahuhu Primary School I'm proud of our staff, who got involved with distance learning with zoom and sea-saw.

Since then we joined Manaikalini Virtual cluster. This is going to be of benefit to all our learners whereby all barriers ti learning will be removed.

If its worth teaching,it's worth capturing. - Rewindable Learning.

What needs to happen - All teachers need to become digitally fluent.

Cybersmart  Curriculum

Supports Learn,Create Share Pedagogy

The Cybersmart Curriculum was developed by the Manaikalani.

It is modelled on appropriate consistent language.

When taught in a positive light, digital citizenship helps chn to navigate effectively through the digital world resulting in healthy interactions.

There are 10 catergories in the cyber smart curriculum.

They are Smart Learners,Smart footprint,Smart relationships,Smart media,Smart surfing,Smart legal,Smart money,Smart values,Smart teachers,Smart parents

A suggested year would or could look like this

Term 1  Smart Learner (our learn term)

Term 2 Smart footprint (our create term)

Term 3 Smart Relationships (our Share Term)

1-1 Devices

- Every child should have their own device.  Learning through the class site creates effective shifts in learning.

Explain Everything - Such a lot of fun

 DFI Day 6

Professional Learning today

Enabling

Connectivity

Another great learning day.

What is great about being Digitally connected

Being digitally connected is empowering for our learners. Schools can connect in their clusters. Resources are sent digitally to each others schools. Manaiakalini has a huge connection with the schools that are in their clusters. Each school is using the same LEARN CREATE SHARE.

Even though it looks different in each school, we are all paddling in the same direction to reach our goals.

On Wednesday we learnt about

Designing our site is empowering our learners, who can then empower family members to create their sites.

Purpose of having a learning site.

One Stop learning for learning

Learning is accessible

Rewind ability

Personalised learning

Visible planning and learning

Hub of information about events

Progression for learner and parents

Weekly overviews and timetables

Google sites  - creates consistency across the school. They have visual appeal. Visual appeal hooks learners into learning.

These sites are very useful for personal and professional growth.

 DFI 6 Visibility

Learn Create Share

Dorothy discussed visible teaching and learning . The Learning journey needs to be visible for parents, students and families.

What all educators need to is the learning visible learning. That includes all the preparation and planning to all the stakeholders.

The google sites have lead the way in visible learning.

Educators need to reflect on digital technology to make it accessible online, removing all barriers to visible learning.

The new vision is to have class sites for all learners. This technology makes learning visible all the time, no  matter where the child is.

Multi Modal Sites

Today we created our own multi modal site. Mine is a very beginner effort. With more learning I'll become proficient.

Kerry spoke about multimodal communications.  A perfect way to engage,Empower and  encourage personalised learning.

Most importantly students learn to create and share learning.

 DFI  Day 4

Pedagogy

SHARING

The instinct to share is the hook for learning.

Sharing is a major part of who we are are!

The Manaiakalini programme has capitalised on sharing.

April 2005 was the birth of sharing. It was the introduction of U Tube,Facebook and many more sharing platforms.

It's the best thing that has happened to all of us. It gave everyone the ability to share their lives.

The purpose of sharing is sharing to an audience.

Sharing in the digital age is  beyond the community. It covers  everyone in the world.

It gives everyone the decision who they want to listen to.

Learn Create Share - Is where learning starts.

SHARING = LEARNING CAN START.

TODAY  was a great challenging day. Google Forms is great for sharing as is Google sheets.

I can use both in my professional and personal space.

DFI Day 4 Student Data

Today I created a spreadsheet on a student's blogging. Her name is Sulia. She is blogging since 2017 till now in 2021. In 2017she had 32 post. 2018 she created 221 post. In 2019 she created 346post. In 2020 she created 183 post and this year she created 11 post so far.
In 2019 she created the  346 post her most ever.

 DFI Week 3   Media

Today I enjoyed listening to CREATE. And Then CREATE

CREATE  is hooking students into engaging in learning

When students are able to create they become better problem solvers, communicators and collaborators.

Important points that I noted today was; All  schools need to see where they can make their schools more creative.

It's time for all teachers to see where they can be more creative in their classrooms. Research has proven that those who make the most gains in students achievement are engaging students in creativity.

Quote

" It's in creating that the individual gains purpose" Michael Fullan.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional

Enjoyed the tips on Hapara

Loved making a playlist

Enjoyed Google draw

Enjoyed Google slides

Enjoyed moving into different groups. I went to Drag and Drop with Maria  and Google Drawing with Dave.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Really going to enjoy teaching my learners google slides and making activities.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Great skills to use to use in in my personal life.

Digital Fluency Intensive (DFI) Day 2  Wednesday 17th February 2021

1. What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalini Kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today Dorothy Burt gave an excellent understanding on Manaiakalani Kaupapa and pedagogy.

 Digital Fluency Goals for (DFI).

"We are supported to acquire fluency using the basic tools our students use for learning, which  for teachers are  effective teaching, planning, assessment and professional learning. We are supported to understand how digital technologies used effectively can have a significant impact on accelerating achievement outcomes. We are supported to understand how the Manaiakalini pedagogy and Kaupapa has been co-constructed over more than a decade to maximise the impact of effective teaching and learning in a digital environment. "

Support for our Learners and community.

The Manaikalini Programme will support our learners and community of moving from the analogue world to a digital world. With increasing teaching  effectiveness and accelerating learning outcomes in the digital environment.

Learn ako  - Recognise -  Amplify - Turbocharge  - Effective Practice practice in the digital world of our learners:

Recognise : Effective Practice - Learn by reading authentic texts

                                                 - Sharing ideas in discussion

                                                  - Thinking critically and developing strategies

                                                   - collaborating and making choices in learning and creating and sharing

Amplify and Turbocharge Effective Practice    - Transform the way we learn

                                                                         - Offer new experiences

                                                                        - Offer new opportunities

We were asked to think about - What does "learn look like at my school"

Digital Technology  - It's not just a tool. It transform the way we learn.

What Did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Digital Technology can make my professional life easier. I am grateful that I am getting the new learning and the time to acquire the knowledge to become successful with the Digital tools and transform the way we learn.

Using Hapara with the staff and students will enhance the way our learners will get quick feedback.

Creating a meeting with Google meet was very important to building my confidence and my work flow.

Google Keep is a very useful tool for making list and keeping notes. It also links to my google calendar and can keep reminders.

The ideas that were taught for Gmail and calendar will with continue to build by capabilities as leader and a professional.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners

We are focusing on our staff being empowered with Digital Tools.  We have amplified our journey with joining the Virtual Cluster with Manaia Kalani.

We are investigating the benefits of Hapara.

We are looking forward to the day our community comes aboard with the 1-1 devices.

We look forward to the day when our students will benefit by using 1-1 devices at school and home.

We are fortunate that we have staff who are using some digital tools that are empowering  our  students.

What Did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability in my personal Life ?

I am fortunate that I realised in my early years in education that Digital learning is important  to not only my professional but to my personal life as well.

From Today's meeting I have realised that the tools I learnt will be very useful in my personal life.

I am so grateful to Maria and Kerry, who are my mentors. Both of you are awesome.

Today I would like to thank Campbell who supported be through the blog exercise. You are marvellous and patient. Thank you so much.

😀😁😃😄

Nau mai, haere mai

Welcome to my professional learning blog.

This is a place where I can reflect on my teaching in relation to my Teaching as Inquiry goals and how they link to the Education Council's Standards for the Teaching Profession
